Standard equipment on all trailers is electric brakes and a DOT required "Break-Away" brake system. The Break-Away system consists of a 12-volt battery, activation switch and a wire lanyard that activates the system. The lanyard is attached to the towing vehicle and to the activation switch on the trailer. If for any reason the trailer were to become detached from the vehicle while being towed, the lanyard would activate the switch, engaging the electric brakes and bringing the trailer to a stop.
